Today a little sneak peek into our warehouse.
We had to ask ourselves how to master a situation with continuous increasing work load without adding labor all the time. The answer is you have to improve the way things are done. Easy, isn't it? So we made sure that:
- Everything has its fixed place, where needed. The biggest step forward is that we can now store all regular needed box sizes right where they are used in direct reach. But also small details like the tape roller, or document envelops are now stored a grab away from where they are used. Also, we put the stapler gun on a balancer so it gets pulled out of the way automatically but is there when needed.
- Split the process into its steps according the material flow. First the picked parts get packed individually on the right side of the packing station table. next they get packed in to the shipping box in the middle and last they are being closed with the scales that we integrated into the table. The shipping label gets printed semiautomatic. By splitting up into these steps we can easily add helpers in high workload moments. So we usually accomplish shipping all orders that get cleared for the warehouse before 4pm on the same day.
